How I became a nurse at 19!
I always knew I was destined for a career dealing with people. I just thought those people would be kids in a classroom. Graduation was coming in May 2011, it was April. I was 17 and I had been accepting to a private 4 year christian college, with scholarships. I had taken a tour to the BEAUTIFUL campus. I was ready to pack and go. That came to a screeching halt when I couldn't get the feeling that it wasn't where I needed to be. So with that, I started talking to my guidance councilor about schools for nursing. There was a school close by that I could get my LPN in a year. So I took my entrance test, applied for the school, and started in January. So 2012 I spent the entire year learning everything they could stuff in our brains to become a nurse. I was a full time nurse, I was in a committed relationship, and ready for my chance to work. Now it's 2013, I am married, a nurse on the Med-surg unit at a hospital (which I love!), oh and might I mention... I'm 19. Just in case anybody is wondering, I'm not you're average 19 year old, obviously. I don't party, I don't think the world should be handed to me like so many of this generation believe, I enjoy being an adult. I face challenges being a young nurse. I am often looked at as "the baby". Thankfully, I work with wonderful nurses who help me learn more and more each shift. They see my ability to be a good nurse. So shout out to the awesome women and men who help me be the best nurse I can be! You guys are great! Now, the reason for this blog! I don't remember everything from nursing school (who does?!) So this is my own personal study tool along with stories of learning experiences (DON'T WORRY, HIPPA WILL BE FOLLOWED). No names or details that will identify certain people will be used in my blogs. So if you're still reading this (and I hope you are), I hope you'll come back for my next post to see how this blog becomes my learning tool! Have a great day and let the learning begin.
